I have never understood why people say "zions" national park with an s as if it was plural or possessive. Maybe everyone thinks that it is pronounced the same as the bank. Maybe they feel that if they don't say national park then they have to insert an s. I just don't know how it happens. Whatever the reason, it bothers me every time I hear someone say it. I hear it quite often too seeing as I live so close. Just so everyone knows, it is pronounced "Zion" without an s. This probably comes off as a very know-it-all kind of statement but I feel this situation warrants an appeal to the masses...well at least to the three people who may venture onto my blog. Let us spread this information far and wide and make a positive change occur in our society. Stop the madness! Ok, I know it's not that big of a deal but these thoughts just came to me and I thought I would give everyone the opportunity of venturing into my head for a moment. Thanks for coming! You're welcome back anytime.
No, no, you're right. This is a big deal. I myself have been pronouncing it wrong all these years. Thank you for the correction!
ReplyDelete...I don't know if I will actually change... But at least every time I say it (which probably averages out to maybe...3 times a year? aka never.) I will think of you and how you would cringe if you were here right now. You're welcome.
I'm gonna guess the problem derives from people feeling like they're in the movie "Legacy" whenever they say "I'm going to Zion" or "How far to Zion?"
ReplyDeleteJust sayin.
